DESIGN
Italian industrial, interior and automobile
design is widely recognized for its fine balance between rigor and fantasy.
Throughout Italy there are many famous avant-garde design schools, such as ‘Istituto Europeo del Design’ and university faculties like architecture at the ‘Politecnico di Torino’ and the IUAV of the University of Venezia. Italian design is an amalgam of functionality and emotion. Whilst functionality is an
important feature of any design, Italian designs are popular the world over for their expressions of creativity, art and emotion. Ferrari with its iconic red cars has been the epitome of technical excellence and breathtakingly beautiful
design. And what about the Vespa? It has always been more than a mere object,
being a common form of transport for Italians it is a lifestyle icon. To many youths in Italy the Vespa is an expression of freedom. Its
comfortable and hassle-free nature only adds to its ingenious design. Who could ever forget Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck on a Vespa in the film ‘Roman Holiday’?
